Exploring the Indigo Milky Cap Mushroom

Commonly known as the Indigo Milky Cap or Blue Milk Mushroom, this mushroom is a mesmerizing agaric fungus found across eastern North America, East Asia, and Central America. Its vibrant cap ranges from deep blue to pale blue-gray as it matures, and it secretes a striking indigo-blue latex when its flesh is cut—a feature unique to the genus Lactarius. Growing in both deciduous and coniferous forests, this mushroom forms mycorrhizal relationships with various trees, enriching its habitat with its presence.
