Primarily resided in by nocturnal cave dweller creatures such as bats, salamanders, some birds like owls and cave swiftlets, and snakes. It is also the home to a few of the animals that may be a little large for a standard burrow, like bears. Much of the caves are natural formations, but some adaptions here and there have been carved out to make the space a little cozier for larger families. The Caves have their own fresh water pond close to the main large entrance, and grow moss throughout. The moss is a light sage green in color due to the minimal light exposure. The light the moss receives is from the bioluminescent mushrooms which adorn the cave walls. These mushrooms are small white caps and look like little dots of stars adorning the cave anywhere a path has not been tread through.
As those who reside here are nocturnal they are known as *the* place to be for some nightlife fun. Taking advantage of the caverns glow, many throw glow parties, and all the best DJ's come from here. Thankfully the caves do a good job at trapping any sound from going to the next spot over, so the parties don't disturb the hibernating bear families. Cove City even has a nightclub called "The Grotto" that tries to look similar to the beautiful mossy walls.
There isn't much for food here, so most venture out at night for needs, either to the city which is always awake, or to forage in Luna Valley for bugs and plants. Most creatures have weird trades that take advantage of their night-wake cycle. Flyers might help with directing boats safely to port, and ground dwellers often work in healthcare keeping hospitals safe while everyone sleeps.
The Caves have a mix of permanent and non permanent housing options. While many have their own cave burrow they also have a large set of "nests" as temporary homes are called in nearby Cove City. Most nests are on the ground floor and larger than the average as they are primarily used by local hibernating families looking for a cozy place to rest over the winter. Because of this they tend to leave winter holiday decorations up in the nests for future families to enjoy, and between that and the hand carved fireplaces it can feel like holiday magic year round.
